Hepatocellular carcinoma is one of the most common causes of cancer-related death worldwide. In cases of liver resection for hepatocellular carcinoma, the dissector, whether a pathologist’s assistant, physician, or resident, must have a clear understanding of both the terminology of liver anatomy and the requirements of the corresponding College of American Pathologists Cancer Protocol to properly orient, describe, dissect, and sample the specimen.
