Abstract

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a group of over 200 related viruses, some of which can cause warts and others that can lead to cancers, including cervical, throat, and anal cancers. HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection worldwide and affects both men and women. Many HPV infections go unnoticed and clear up on their own, but certain high-risk types can persist and lead to serious health issues. This article provides an in-depth look at HPV, covering its causes, symptoms, transmission, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. It explores the genetic and biological mechanisms of the virus, details the available vaccines like Gardasil, and explains how HPV-related cancers develop. This guide aims to educate patients, caregivers, and the public about HPV, equipping them with the knowledge to protect themselves and seek appropriate care when needed.
